Minor in Private Studio Teaching

Department

This minor provides focused study of all aspects of private studio teaching, including pedagogy, literature, technology, and financial, marketing, and business considerations. It is designed to prepare students to offer private lessons, lead ensembles, and facilitate recitals in a variety of community music program settings as well as explore and apply philosophy, music education, and attitudes essential to the successful private music studio instructor. They learn how to successfully teach, start, and grow a private music studio from initial idea and planning to ongoing management and marketing. Students choose from two tracks—instrumental or choral conducting—and choose their path accordingly.
