Since his start as a DJ in 1999, Jason Dawson B.M. '05 (Dj JD) has followed his passion for the arts and entertainment. Having graduated from Berklee in 2005 with a major in music production and engineering, Dawson has gone on to a successful DJ career, releasing remixes on AV8 Records, landing the top residencies in New England and becoming the music director for BNEG (Big Night Entertainment Group). Dawson founded his own entertainment company in 2007, Dawson Entertainment Production, LLC, which focuses on private events and lighting. In 2012 he took over Berklee's DJ program from his mentor, Stephen Webber, and has worked to expand the offerings at the college.
"My goal is to have my students leave class inspired to play and create music and be informed with real world examples. My hope is for students to leave the DJ program performing at a high level so they can start DJing in the real world right out of school, if not while in school, to bring their original productions and remixes to a larger audience."
"There are so many aspects of my career that help me inform students on their journey, but some of the most important are entrepreneurship skills (company creation, website building, and branding), live DJ performance skills for nightclubs and events (music preparation, remixing, and live music manipulation), and technical skills (computer literacy, entertainment equipment installation, and programming). These have been important parts of my career and seem to play a more central part of the future music industry."
