Jazz Meets Americana: Thornewood
Please see the events listing for upcoming events.
David Thorne Scott presents his album Thornewood for the first time with a full band.
“I’ve been an East Coast jazz guy for all of my adult life, but for me the music washes through the prairie grass of my home state of Nebraska. That duality has always made me a bit different. I’m usually either the hippest or the squarest person in the room,” says Scott. His 2021 album Thornewood is an attempt to reconcile these two halves of his soul. There are songs from the Great American Songbook, plainspoken Texas songwriters, and slick film composers, along with his original songs, inspired musically by hard bop and lyrically by the Great Plains.
Laurie Fanell of Eponymous Review says, “At a time of great conflict in our country—when words often fail us—music has the power to bridge divides. With his latest album Thornewood…David Thorne Scott explores the intersection of jazz and Americana, city and country, instrumentation and lyrics to create lush compositions and covers that are unifying, and healing, in their beauty.”
