Summit Brings Chinese Music Leaders to Berklee
The third annual Berklee China–U.S. Music Summit, November 9–10, will bring top Chinese music industry professionals together with students and faculty at Berklee. The private event is presented by the Berklee Chinese Music Industry Club, led by current students Pinxi (Pixie) Lu and Shiqi (Melody) Qiao (copresidents), and Xiexiaomeng (Jack) Hu, Tianxue (Shirley) Li, and Yingmin (Amy) Piao (vice presidents). The weekend will end with a public concert at the Berklee Performance Center.
The summit will include two days of panels and discussions bringing the Berklee community together with Chinese music industry professionals. The four main topics for this year are: artist and repertoire, game sound design, artist content promotion and protection, and alumni success stories. Companies attending the summit include Sony Music China, Disney Games and Interactive Experiences, Caotai Music, Hexany Audio, TaiHe Music Group, Capitol Records, and Fantasy Entertainment. Throughout the weekend, students will have the opportunity to network with industry professionals, interview for internships and full-time jobs in China, and receive real-world advice and direction for building a career in an overseas music industry.
Speakers and panelists will include Lucas Carbonneau, general manager and cofounder, LoveSurvive; Richard Ludlow, audio director, Hexany Audio; Matthew Carl, lead composer, Hexany Audio; Roc Chen, television, film, and video game composer; Richard Furch, Grammy-winning mix engineer; Nick Gallant, audio director of Disney Mobile; Lei Gao, A&R administration and operation manager, Sony China; Fei Ge, music producer and CEO of Caotai Music; Noah Gopen, head of creative, Honua Music; Shi Wei Lu, music critic, journalist, music entertainment culture planner; Yang Luo, senior vice president, City Dream; Zhen Tian, cofounder, MTEC; Lei Wang, general manager, United Entertainment Group; Zi Qiang Ye, vocal training master; and many more.
The event will conclude with a special concert at the Berklee Performance Center on November 10 at 7:30 p.m., hosted by the Berklee Chinese Music Industry Club. Demonstrating the beauty of diversity and inclusion in music, the Berklee China–U.S. Music Concert presents Chinese and English songs in a variety of styles, including pop, R&B, funk, jazz, gospel, and electronic. The show will feature performers from around the world, performing with some of the best Berklee singers and musicians. The concert committee consists of Berklee alumni and students Jonathan Foo B.M. ’18 (director), Enoch Cheng B.M. ’19 (music director), and Amy Piao B.M. ’21 and Li Gao B.M. ’19 (coproducers). Tickets for the concert go on sale Friday, October 18.
