Javier Limón and Magos Herrera to Perform at Lincoln Center with Student Gilbert Mansour
Javier Limón, the artistic director of the Mediterranean Music Institute, and jazz singer Magos Herrera will perform standards from their 2014 duo album Dawn on March 26 at the Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts in New York City. Lebanese student percussionist Gilbert Mansour will join them as a guest artist.
This album of Latin and American jazz standards features an encounter between the profound, sophisticated voice of Herrera, whom Jazz Times called "the Cassandra Wilson of Latin America," and the intricate flamenco guitar of Limón. Be it in English, Spanish, or Portuguese, the self-control of Herrera's interpretation and the power of her words and voice combined with Limón's refined simplicity and harmony, in addition to the careful rendering of this project, make Dawn a cutting-edge, revolutionary approach to flamenco jazz.
Mansour is an accomplished and versatile world percussionist who incorporates Middle Eastern, classical, Afro-Cuban, Brazilian, and Indian percussion instruments into different musical genres.
