Ingrid Jensen

Trumpet and flugelhorn player Ingrid Jensen ’89 came to Berklee by way of Nanaimo, British Columbia. An award-winning musician, she has been considered a standout jazz trumpeter since the release of her first album, Vernal Fields (ENJA, 1995), which won a Juno Award. Jensen subsequently made two more acclaimed albums with ENJA and found herself in demand as a leader and a session musician. She performed all over Japan, South America, and Europe; taught at the Bruckner Conservatory in Austria; and eventually ended up in New York City, playing with both Maria Schneider’s and Darcy James Argue’s jazz orchestras.

Some of Jensen’s more recent projects include performances with Terri Lyne Carrington’s Mosaic Project and featured performances on her sister Christine Jensen’s JUNO Award winning album Treelines (2011) and Habitat (2013), both recorded with the Christine Jensen Jazz Orchestra. She has worked with a wide variety of musicians throughout the world from fellow Berklee alumna Esperanza Spalding ‘05 to Clark Terry to Sarah McLachlan. With her quintet, quartet, and organ trio, she has played to rave reviews in countries such as Australia, South Africa, Brazil, Japan, and Mexico, to name a few. Her style is notable for its range and transformative power.

In addition to Jensen’s busy recording and performing schedules, she makes the time to teach jazz trumpet in a variety of locations from the University of Michigan to the Dave Brubeck Institute to the Stanford Jazz Camp.
