Gabriele Vanoni Named Assistant Chair of Composition

Berklee has named globally acclaimed pianist and composer Gabriele Vanoni as assistant chair of the Composition Department. A native of Milan, Italy, Vanoni has degrees in piano and composition from the Milan Conservatory, as well as a doctorate in music composition from Harvard University. His music has been widely performed in Europe and the Americas in venues such as Carnegie Hall, Biennale di Venezia, ManiFeste, Moscow Conservatory, New York University, and Accademia Chigiana di Siena. He has worked and performed with the Ensemble Intercontemporain, San Francisco Contemporary Music Players, Talea Ensemble, the Moscow Studio for New Music Ensemble, and more. 

Since 2015, Vanoni has served as an assistant professor in the Composition Department, as well as artistic director and founder of Suggestioni, a festival showcasing Italian music in the United States. His recent commissions include a piece for the 2015 Universal Exposition in Milan (Nutrire La Musica) and a new composition for accordion and string orchestra.

He has shown dedication to our students and their educational and career success.”

About the Composition Department

Berklee’s Composition Department provides a thorough course of study in traditional and contemporary musical composition, orchestration, and score preparation, with advanced training in instrumental, choral, and musical theater conducting. The department works with creative multimedia, from traditional opera, dance, and theater to contemporary electronic and mixed media. Alumni from the department have received such accolades as the Toru Takemitsu Award, the Koussevitzky Foundation Commission, and the Fromm Foundation Commission, among others.
