Berklee Alumni Work on Music for Black Panther and A Wrinkle in Time
If you head to the movie theater this weekend there’s a good chance you’ll be hearing the work of Berklee alumni, who feature prominently in the music credits of the country’s top two movies, Black Panther and A Wrinkle in Time.
Black Panther, the megahit based on a Marvel comic about a superhero from Wakanda, a hidden and technologically advanced African community, boasts eight Berklee alumni in its music and sound departments and one who contributed to the soundtrack. They are:
- Christopher C. Lane B.M. ’09, music designer
- Ronald J. Webb B.M. ’97, music editor
- Alexander J. Lowe B.M. ’92, Pro Tools playback
- David A. Raymond B.M. ’93, boom operator
- Richard T. Gould B.M. ’13, foley editor
- Riley S. Hughes B.M. ’13, music preparation
- Gregory P. Jamrok ’98, music preparation
- Ken W. Burton ’88, choirmaster
- Matt Schaeffer B.M. ’12, lyricist, composer, and publisher for Kendrick Lamar's song "Black Panther"
At no. 2 in the box office, just behind Black Panther, is the Disney sci-fi fantasy A Wrinkle in Time, based on the book by the same name about a girl on a quest to find her father. Its otherworldly music was composed by Ramin Djawadi B.M. '98, who is best-known as the composer for Game of Thrones and Westworld, but who's also created the music for several feature films, including Iron Man and last year's The Mountain Between Us.
